They offer excellent prices for copper and other non ferrous metals. If you have a lot of brass, be sure to separate yellow and red from the "irony brass", otherwise you will lose 50¢ per pound on the yellow as they will count it as mixed.

Common questions and tips from our work with Brookville customers.
- What kinds of copper do you buy?
- Wire, pipe, tubing, roof flashing, gutter, coil, and fittings all come across our Brookville scale regularly. Copper is graded on how clean it is, so bright uncoated copper with no solder, paint, or attached fittings sits at the top and heavily soldered or painted material sits lower. Bring it in and we will tell you which grade your load falls under before anything is weighed.
- Should I strip copper wire before selling it?
- It depends on the gauge. Heavy insulated wire usually holds enough copper that stripping is worth the labor, while fine wire and small-gauge cable often are not, since you can spend an entire evening for a couple of pounds. Bring a sample in and ask before you commit to the work. We would rather tell you not to bother than watch you waste a weekend on it.
- Does copper pipe with solder joints still count?
- Yes, we still buy it. Solder, brass fittings, and paint move copper into a lower grade rather than disqualifying it, so it is worth bringing regardless. If you have the time and a pipe cutter, trimming off the soldered joints and removing brass fittings moves more of the load into the cleaner grade. Ask at the scale and we will show you exactly where the line falls.
Tip
Keep copper away from steel and brass
Copper loses value fast when it arrives mixed. A bucket with copper pipe, brass fittings, and a few steel screws in it has to be graded down or picked apart, and neither outcome helps you. Give copper its own container in the truck, keep brass in a second one, and let the steel ride loose. Two minutes of separation at home protects the per-pound rate on the highest-value metal you are hauling.
